As far as I understand it, MS's main reason for buying VPC was, as an
earlier poster said, for its virtual server potential - the ability to
run several Windows servers on one machine, possibly on several different
versions of Windows.

Without getting into black helicopters territory, it does seems plausible
that they wouldn't like the idea of someone running a Windows server
thinking "hey, with VPC I could also run linux with Apache on this
machine, instead of paying out for IIS". So there could be a business
case, in their eyes, for disabling linux support.

Anyway, we'll find out :)
