regarding unfamiliar meta keys:
I like heading the other direction from simple in times of frustration or dire need.
("The key shortcut you want in that app is
ctrl - rightshift - beanie - option - Q, A, A, footswitch, then hold Fn and right-alt and kick your cpu off the table.")
You forgot about swinging the keyboard over your head and scream like a chicken.

I've got a trackball somewhere that included a foot switch to click. I tried it once for the heck of it. It still makes no sense, if my hand is on the trackball where else is my thumb going to be but on the button. I suppose I could put both on the floor using one foot on the trackball and one on the foot switch. Of course I might bloody well fall clean off the chair trying it.
