While I wouldn't want to try and talk anyone out of their preferred
method, let me give you the other side of the picture.

As someone who in days gone by received anywhere from 400-600
mail-list messages a day (I've cut back on my mail-lists in the last
year or two), I have *never* used a digest mode. The biggest reason
is the time-delay between when the posts are actual made and the time
the digest reaches the subscribers. There are times when urgent help
is needed ASAP. Secondly, although I don't know how the digest mode
on this list is configured, I always found trying to locate a
specific message in a digest a pain in the neck. It's very easy to
look at all of the individual messages and select the one(s) you want
to read immediately.

I don't see where trying to follow a thread is difficult in the
non-digest mode. I assume that your email client can can sort
incoming messages by thread. If it's a "I can't remember what an
early message said" problem, just keep those that look interesting to
you, instead of deleting them right away. Or move all read messages
to a mailbox where you keep them for a week before deleting.

I don't understand French, but if it roughly means "whatever makes
your boat float." I agree. :-) That's what makes the world go around.
