Further to your most excellent comments, I would like to add that anyone writing mb instead of MB really has got a problem.

b is bits B is bytes.
Their prefixes are not lower case abbrevs!
bb = bye bye, or bugs bunny (depends on the context)! kb = kick butt! mb = motherboard! (couldn't resist!) Mb = megabit. MB = megabyte. Mbps = megabits per second. MB/sec = megabytes per second. There is NO "MBps"!
Then there's the ultimate abusers, that failed 3rd grade math.
"bit" is an acronym for "binary digit". It is *binary*, ie base 2, never decimal! IOW, the "multiplier" is a power of 2, not 10. 1024 not 1000. Repeat the mantra of your grade school teacher: NEVER MIX BASES.
1024 bytes per kilobyte.
A megabyte is 1 KB * 1 KB = 1024 bytes * 1024 bytes = 1,048,576 bytes.
A gigabyte is 1 KB * 1 MB = 1024**3 bytes = 1,073,741,824 bytes!
Why is this important? In addition to the obvious reasons, there are companies out there using this to rip us off! Giganews is my fav example. They sell accounts by gigabyte caps. But then they do their math in decimal! So for each GB of USENET download you buy, they screw you out of ~70 MB!
