Hey, Listers!
I'm still struggling with my Wallstreet. It still will not charge
the battery. I've replaced the power card and the PMU, but still no
go. The battery is "new," purchased off eBay. Any ideas as to where
to go from here?

According to the Apple service manual, you should try (in this order): * Resetting the power manager (fn-shift-power) * Using the battery in the opposite expansion bay * Replacing the charge card * Replacing the PMU * Replacing the power card

So, if you haven't done the first 3 steps, there's little point in
replacing the PMU or the DC board

Thanks for the response, Ben. My apologies for being so slow to respond. It's the holiday season, and those of us in retail are getting a bit busy! As for the Wallstreet, I've definitely tried the first 3 steps several times first. The first two were easy and cheap. Is the DC board integrated into the sound card?

In an (supposedly) unrelated issue, when I boot up (OS X.2.8), my
screen is blacked out all the way to the log in page. When I hit the
brightness button above the keyboard, everything is fine. Odd, but
it's not like I can't work around it. However, if I try to boot from
the CD, the screen is also black, (I can almost make everything out,
but not quite), but the brightness button doesn't help. in other
words, I can't repair disks etc. reset logins, etc. from my boot CD.
Strange, yes? Anybody encounter this before?

This is a known issue with the Wallstreet under Jaguar. To fix this problem: * Restart into MacOS 9 * Put the Wallstreet to sleep * Wake it up again * Restart into Jaguar

I tried this and it seemed to help. I need to take care of the battery issue and hopefully this will resolve itself.

Thanks, again, for your input, Ben. This has been a real test of patience.
