For a computer as fragile as a laptop that is subject to be moved
constantly, I would say that AppleCare is money very well spent. I've read
numerous messages in this list where people would recoup their money on a
single repair.

As for the price, you might want to check SmallDogs. I've seen them a few
times offering AppleCare for PowerBook for as low as $249.
