I have now verified that the card seem to work in a PC. At least it
blinks and is recognized by Win XP, whic installs the drivers. I didn't
have a network to test with, though there is one in the house. On the PB
G4 the symptoms are simply that no card is found and there's no discovery
of a new network adapter in the network panel.
I ran Kextststat and Kextload to make sure the Kext was in the kernel and
I have some results I need help to interpret:
Machine:/System/Library/Extensions mik$ sudo kextload -t IOXperts80211.kext
Password:
kernel extension IOXperts80211.kext has problems:
Validation failures
{
"Kext has a kernel dependency prior to version 6.0 and
CFBundleVersion does not match executable's MODULE_VERSION" = true
}
***This means what? Some library is missing? "IOXperts80211.kext" is
linked against "com.apple.iokit.IOPCCardFamily" and
"com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily", but what could be wrong with these
of the 10.3.6 OS version? ***
The I tried to load the kext:
Machine:/System/Library/Extensions mik$ sudo kextload -v IOXperts80211.kext
Password:
kextload: extension IOXperts80211.kext appears to be valid
kextload: notice: extension IOXperts80211.kext has debug properties set
kextload: loading extension IOXperts80211.kext
kextload: IOXperts80211.kext loaded successfully
kextload: loading personalities named:
kextload: PrismAndHermesCards
kextload: PCICarrierCards
kextload: sending 2 personalities to the kernel
kextload: matching started for IOXperts80211.kext
***So I think I have a Prism chip in this Agere Card, am I right? So is
the card loading, but some odd dependence prevents it from working or
what am I missing? Do you have other suggestions on what to try?
At least I should be able to make the card show a sign of life as on the
PC, don't you think? There is of course the possibility that the PCMCIA
slot is dead. The lower airport slot is working however. So any ideas how
to rule out a dead PCMCIA slot?***
