    Thanks for that long and detailed response.  Folks are busy with holiday
preparations now, but as soon as they are done, will try a VNC connection
with ARD and report back to here re how it goes.

ARD and VNC both do remote control of the computer but as far as I know they don't interact. To use ARD you need the ARD client and the ARD Appliction. Simlarly with VNC.
