The general rule of thumb is that recent computers should be able to read pretty much any format, but if one doesn't work try different a brand of +R discs is the first brand doesn't work.
I thought many older drives, say 2 years, needed a firmware update for this to work? Why do speak about "recent" computers on lowendmac list? In this context for me, "recent" is 2-3 years old.
How can I make my original DVD-drive of the Powerbook G4 / 400 read DVD+?
