Is the Wallstreet S-Video hot swabable?

Unless you mean smearing it with warm liquids ;-) yes, S-video is hot-swappable.

I'm not sure it'll display properly (haven't done it in a while), but
you can plug it in and out while the computer is on without causing
damage.

Hey Bruce, As I recall the WS manual states that the television should be shut off when connecting an S-video cable, and that the PB should be put to sleep.

Two questions:
1. Is there any type of voltage on a S-video line?

Well, yes, it's an electronic signal line, so of course there's voltage. Enough to hurt things, probably not. This is a signal recognition issue.

2. Does putting a PB to sleep (a WS in this case) have any effect on the ports?
(I've always assumed that the reason Apple recommends putting the PB
to sleep for some connections is that the when a PB wakes up, the OS
scans the ports each time, thus would recognize a new connection that
was done during sleep. I don't know if that is correct or not.)

Your assumption is correct; actually all of Apple's instructions are geared towards that end.

Many TVs won't switch inputs while 'awake', except via the menu off the remote controller, and the WS won't recognize a port being connected unless it's seen as live when the computer either boots or wakes up.

Doing it per Apple's instructions guarantees the best chance for instant success, so some smarta** in the back of the room doesn't yell "Get a Mac!" while you're struggling with your display.

(Still my favorite Apple ad of ALL time)
