Otherwise, just getting the largest (capacity) hard drive you can find will make things better, as OS X won't be as likely to run out of space and start fragmenting all your files.
Ok, I buy that, but if we're talking about a "smaller" drive, in this case a 40GB drive, surely we're talking ratio. If I keep it not much more than 1/2 full, leaving at least 10GB of free space, this should not be an issue... ?
Obviously going from 4200rpm to 7200rpm is the optimum but how much does 4200rpm to 5400rpm actually do for performance in terms of avgerage useage (not heavy Photoshop) ?
