So, I tend to agree with John. IOXperts looks like your best choice at the moment.

One advantage with their drivers is that you can use the same unlock code for the OS X driver if you want to go that route in the near future (i.e. you don't have to pay additional for the OS X driver).
BTW you shouldn't have any problem using it at public hotspots. Wireless is wireless (other than the speed and distance differences between 11b and 11g).
