How do current iBooks fare in multimedia apps like iMovie or Garageband?

I was wondering... How do current iBooks fare in multimedia apps like 
iMovie or Garageband? Currently I own a SLOW Pismo G3 with a 5400rpm 
hard drive, and 768mb of RAM. I've been thinking of upgrading to an 
iBook rather than a more expensive Powerbook. Does the slower 4200 rpm 
hard drive hamper multitrack recording or digital editing much? Does it 
stutter during playback etc.?
