Depending on your needs I'd go all the way to Panther, being prepared there might be problems, and if so just start over. But the Crescendo cards work fine with OS X I think. You'd need to run XPostFacto, but IMHO it's great. I had a great experience with Panther on a WS II/PDQ with 382MB RAM a year ago or so. Panther use less memory more gracefully than both 10.1 and 10.2. The sole problem I had, was distorted sound input.
