Hector brings up a good point. I haven't used audacity, but Sound Studio allows you to go back and try to tune up the sound files with equalizers, filters, etc. You can also do stuff like reverse the file (listen to those Beatle songs and hear John say "turn me on, dead man").

CD Spin Doctor has a good pop/click filter if you record 78s (like I do). It came with Toast, but it was real buggy and the upgrade wasn't free, so I stopped using it. If what Hector says (it's free) is correct, I'll have to try it again.
