Why? The Ti is a G4 and has a bigger screen res IIRC...
The Pismo hinges were just as unreliable.

Al.... my Ti 400 has had no hinge (or paint) problems. It gets lugged around
with me on the road a few times a week and probably runs about 8 hours a day
on average. Bought it new so that was what, four years ago? I am very
careful when carrying it out of its bag, opening it and closing it so I
don't put undo pressure on one side or the other.... IOW, when carrying it,
I grip it in the middle, and also open it up holding the middle edge... all
so as not to twist it or put strain on the hinges.

Let me add a bit more that I learned. The earliest model Titanium
would have the 400 or 500MHz processor, 128 or 256MB RAM, a 10 or 20GB
hard drive, and DVD-ROM 2X. A user group guy who is acting as an
intermediary between seller and potential buyer will get the details on
the sale item; those specs really do not matter to me.

But I understand the Titanium had problems with hinges breaking. Does
it happen a lot? That can put me off. What do you guys say?

I have a chance to buy an "earliest model" Titanium. Don't know the
specs on it yet. But should I seriously consider it or just hold my
nose and ignore it? In other words, are these models running strong?
Or finding their way into the bottom of the closet? A good design? Or
an Apple mistake?
