The DVD-ROM in the VGA TiBooks is not a standard laptop drive, the cable is on the opposite side. Replacing it also requires a special bracket to fit into the computer. I know you get the bracket from Powerbook Resq, I picked one up last year. I now have a CW-8122 model combo drive in mine, the standard Apple drive is the CW-8121. With the new drive I have to turn down the burn speed to no more than 8x (it's 16x max) or else I get skips in the music.
