Thanks for all the suggestions... somehow Irving didn't want to loose any folder with "System" in its name. Refused to let me delete them. So... I backed up the important stuff to the USB drive and reinstalled X from scratch. Wasn't a total loss tho'... I got to nap between CD's!
The only reason I needed to keep 9 was to run m$ office 98, but I finally got a copy of office v.x and all is goodness. (Yeah, I know... m$ stuff is kinda lame, but at work I have to have it.)
