If so, would this hold true for iPod shuffles as well? (I have the usb charger for the Shuffle.)

If you're plugging the iPod into a USB port on the computer to charge it, you don't need to change anything on it. What comes out of the USB port should be the same no matter what is charging the computer's battery.

If the charger plugs into a wall socket, the charger should have the relevant information on it. Law requires a label or embossing on the charger (or anything else you plug in).

For example, a Powerbook charger says "Input: 100-240v 50-60 Hz." That tells you it can use both US's 120 voltage and most of the rest of the world's 240 voltage. If an iPod wall-plug charger says something similar, you don't need to transform the power, just adapt the plug.

On the other hand, if the info says something more limited, like "Input: 120v 60 Hz," that means US power only and that you have to use a transformer with foreign electricity.

If you plan to use a phone cable for the computer, it must be converted also. Additionally you would be wise to get a device to tell you if the signal from the phone jack is safe. Some places have a different type of signal, which will harm the computer. This may not be relevant since your US ISP probably does not have a dial-up number in London so you'll be using wireless anyway. But check this out before plugging in a phone cable.

Plugs and sockets are different in different parts of the world. UK plugs have round prongs (I think) so you need something to adapt the different shaped prongs to the sockets you'll encounter. Besides Apple's adapters, there is a device sold in hardware stores that combines a small surge protector with an adaptor for different socket configurations.

    Have a good trip.
