If that's it, I'll be thrilled. I've changed PRAM batteries in lots of Macs, and none of them had the same symptoms. Most of them started out by showing a Jan 01, 1904 date stamp before leading to more serious failure, but I've also seen them just up and die, unable to boot at all. The triple chime really had me going. But I've got a spare battery that works, so I can try this out. Stay tuned. If this turns out to be the ticket I'm going to be very happy.
