Hi Folks, I have a Apple PowerBook G3 "Pismo". It has been upgraded with a PowerLogix BlueChip G3 900MHz CPU and 1Gb RAM.
When powered on, the system works fine and I don't have any issues with it, however, over the last few weeks it has developed a problem when being powered off. When powering it back on, I can hear the hard disk spin up, but the screen stays black and I don't get the Macintosh "chimes". I have to pull the power and then try again. Occasionally will get four high pitch beeps coming from the speakers - I presume this is some sort of debug code. Eventually the system will power on and boot an the whole thing is fine. The main battery is totally shot, and I think the PRAM battery might be gone because the time is wrong when I start up - but this gets corrected straight away via NTP. Can anyone suggest what the problem could be? Do you think replacing the PRAM battery will fix this? This isn't a *major* problem as I generally use it as a desktop machine, but recently my girlfriend wanted to take it to university to do a presentation on, and I had to say no as I couldn't trust it to boot! -- Thanks, Andrew McCall [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
