I picked up a Lombard a couple weeks back. It is generally a good machine. This is my first Lombard, so I am not sure what things would fall within the scope of being normal Lombard behavior and which things perhaps need addressing.

It is a 400MHz G3, DVD, 6GB hard drive, 256MB RAM.

It came with OS X v10.3.8 installed. I installed OS 9 over the weekend, and when I booted into OS 9 it reports problems with the cache. From what I have read I gather this is a somewhat common problem with the Lombard. I suspect it has a bad impact on performance, but it does not seem to cause any operational problems.

The biggest annoyance I have noted is that the Lombard will not startup unless I first hit the reset on the back of the machine. Pressing the power button generates a bong, but nothing further happens. I followed directions I found for resetting the NVRAM and it made no difference. There is no cold boot until I press the reset button.

There are times when the Lombard seems to get very warm and I have not noticed the fan kick in. I am going to look for a temperature gauge for the system, but do not know what normal operating temperatures are for the Lombard.

I have a used battery in the Lomard that lasts for about two hours of steady use with a wireless card in the PCMCIA slot. This is adequate for my uses, but again I have no idea what the working life of a new battery is in the Lombard.

Thanks for any assistance getting up to speed on the Lombard.
