Reminds me a bit of the SNL skit were there was a business that only changed
money. They went through a whole slew of, "Give us four quarters, you can
have 20 nickels" sort of deal. The punch line was something like, "How do
we make money? One word: Volume."

Well, volume I suppose really does pay in spamming. How much, even
including the cost of time, could it cost to send out a few million emails
once you've got your act down? Reminds me of another SNL skit where Eddie
Murphy has a Mr. T (?) doll and makes him say to Barbie or the like, "Hey
woman, let me kiss you!" The punchline this time was something like, "90%
of the time I get slapped. But, whoa, the other 10%..." If you're sending
out 100,000 spams and one hundredth of a percent responds... Well, you've
got 10 suckers.

And, well, who doesn't want a great head of hair #and# a doctorate degree
for $40?

(And, fwiw, it's awfully easy to write programs that send spam mail. Find
an open relay and knock yourself out. I think I have enough spam addresses
simply from other listed recepients of the spam I get to make some real
money!)
