I have better signal strength with my new PowerBook (about a month old) than
with the three year old Ti PowerBook, but I don't believe it's due to the OS
(new one is Tiger, old one is 10.3.9 Panther). But even the new one is not as
long range as was my Wall Street with the Orinoco Gold PC card. But I imagine
it all has to do with antenna placement and the material of which the housing
is constructed. The Wall Street with the wireless PC card had the strip line
antenna external to everything, and both newer PowerBook's are trying to
broadcast from a metal shell. I don't see how a change in OS could make any
substantial difference in performance. In the case of wireless the hardware is
going to be the overwhelming first order determinant of performance.
