The 2X write test with the Pioneer DVR-K05 and the Pismo worked perfectly. 2X write was explicitly selected, overriding "best" write rate, although it appeared that the actual writing took less than one-half of the entire program's length. The test source was a movie which took the entire single-layer media. I noticed that even though the drives are rated 2.4X for dual-layer media, Roxio products use 2X. Or, perhaps that is a characteristic of those products ... displaying 2X even though 2.4X was used. Since dual-layer media is costing about $3.25 per unit, and single-layer media is costing about $0.25 per unit, I'll likely defer dual-layer internal testing for a later time. For now, I am pleased with 2X internal EIDE/UATA write and 8X external Firewire write. I believe reading and verification was done at "best" speed, but I have not confirmed that beyond reasonable doubt. -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
