If GraphicConverter can't open and convert the files, I would
be suprised.

I'd be stunned if it did. GC is used for single images, AVI is a
video format. It doesn't list AVI among the gigantic list of formats
it opens.

Hmmm, well I guess that shows that I don't do windoze well.
Another thing to add, just because a file has an extension of .avi,
that doesn't mean that it's an AVI in the true sense of the word. It
could be a video file encoded in one of many formats: Original AVI,
DiVX, or Xvid, just to name a few. That's why something like
MPlayerOSX or VLC works well on those files, as those support
multiple video codecs.
