The video cable carries power for the display. Fraying, cracking
of a power carrying cable can cause all sorts of problems.

Seeing a schematic of the computer is most likely restricted
to Apple design engineers, so the best the rest of us can
do is muddle along with symptom chasing.

If one of those ribbon cables frays at all, it is toast.
Repair of the cable itself is unlikely. They look more like
printed circuits on flexible plastic than a "cable" us OLD
Hams might recognize.
