Same failure mode as found by me with the late Hitachi/IBMs. Same failure mode as previously documented by OWC and others with the late Toshibas and late Hitachi/IBMs. Earlier Toshibas and Hitachi/IBMs would work, and I went with the earlier Hitachi/IBM. It could very well be that Samsung has changed its firmware to more properly reflect the expected (and required) behavior since my tests were completed and reported here and elsewhere. But, as of two months ago, it had not. Others are warned to demand specific information, such as manufacturing date, and/or firmware level before buying drives which have been documented by me, and indeed by several others, to "not work in Lombards and Pismos". Get an unconditional return privilege, or be prepared to pay a significant "restocking fee", often 15-25 percent, should YOU choose to install a known problematic drive, and it does indeed to turn out NOT to work in your machine.
