Cycling a battery is really a pretty simple process.
I usually start by getting a full charge on my battery
as it sits, and then switching solely to battery power
and running the machine completely dead. Meaning -
let it shut itself off...
Once teh battery is fully discharged, plug the machine
in and let it sit until the battery indicator shows a
full charge.
Now, unlock the battery and take it out of the
notebook. Hold it in your hand for about 30 seconds,
and then put it back in the notebook and let the
charging process resume.
Just removing the battery for 30 seconds will likely
yield a result of the battery showing "not fully
charged" on it's indicator.
I would repeat this process of taking the battery out
and putting it back in for about a half a dozen times.
Finally, put it back in, let it get a full charge,
then boot up the machine and switch to battery
power... see how long you get off of a full charge,
let it go dead on it's own and then fully charge it
again one last time.
Again, once this process is done... the more you use
your battery, the longer the results will last.
I've heard people say you shouldn't run a LI battery
dead and whatnot, but I know that I have used this
technique for years on NiCD, NiMH and Li batteries and
have had nothing but favorable results. Again, thats
just my personal experience. But for batteries that
have very little life left on them, what do you have
to lose?? ;-)
