NiMH batteries are a slightly lower voltage (1.2V) than the lithium batteries (1.5V)

However the Lithium batteries are readily available cheaper online:

Thanks a lot. However the user manual of the Apple BT mopuse says alkaline, lithium or NiMH or even NiCd batteries?

Alkaline and Lithium batteries both put out 1.5 V. I forget the output voltage of NiCd AA cells.

So this time Apple used bad circuitry?

Or you have a flaky mouse. If the user manual says NiMH batteries work, and they don't, either the batteries aren't good or the mouse isn't, NiMH rechargeables are very popular. If it's still under warrantee, I'd contact Apple Support about it.
