I'm looking to change the DVD drive in my Pismo to one that can burn CDs.
I don't want to lose the DVD reading abilities however.

I checked around, and such drives exist, but they are VERY expensive.
However, I've heard that the drives themselves are a standard laptop
drive sitting in the shell. In checking for generic laptop drives that
support DVD reading and CD writing, they seem to be much more affordable
(tons on ebay pulled from Dells and the likes).

Has anyone done this? Bought a drive and swapped the internals into the
shell for the Pismo? Does it work? Do you lose the ability to play DVDs
when you do that?

Any other options out there to get CD writing without spending a fortune
and without needing to carry an external drive?
