Michael,

before you buy anything think about where you want to put the firewall
(could be multiple places). I have small network and have firewall on
the DSL modem, WiFi router and then on each machine. Now that may be a
little too paranoid (but that is what keeps me sleeping in the night).

You may want to check if your router (or cable/DSL modem) already has
a firewall built in and enable it (if it is not running yet). Then on
your Mac enable the firewall in System Preferences - Sharing as
somebody suggested in another reply. Then make sure to update your
Windows XP to SP2 level. Then enable built-in Windows firewall in
Control Panel --> Security or purchase external firewall if you want
(I use Symantec, but that is just my personal preference as I rely on
their antivirus software and their product bundles are fairly well
priced - by the way Best Buy has disount on most Symantec bundles this
week so you may spend as little as 30 bucks for entire suite of Norton
SystemWorks).
