Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could please tell me which version of the
ipod/s would work with a 400 mhz G3 Pismo laptop, 512 mb ram, firewire
and usb 1
This question isn't quite as simple as one might think. It breaks
down into two issues:
Interface: FW & USB
Your Pismo doesn't have USB2 so you'll want to avoid the new Video
iPods (unless you buy a USB2 PC Card and this assumes the Pismo is
compatible with Type II PC Cards, I don't recall offhand and all my
docs are at work)
The Nano is also USB only but it works fine with USB1 computers, it
is just slow to sync. (I'm doing this myself with my iMac at work.)
Filling a 4GB Nano with USB1 takes a while - less than 2 hours more
than an hour but I can't narrow it down any better. Since I generally
change less than 200MB of music at a time this isn't an issue.
OS & iTunes:
You'll want to be running at least 10.2.8 and the newest version of
iTunes (6). Apple specifies 10.3 as the minimum OS for the new iPods
but it that's the first OS version compatible with USB2.
