It isn't a matter of supporting Macs but of supporting standards for HTML. The idea that a web site has to be all bells and whistles is absurd. There was a period where every time I went surfing I'd hit at least one site that needed the latest version of flash or some other crud just so they can have flames or something stupid on the page. It got real frustrating. The rate of change has fortunately slowed somewhat so you have a chance really doing something most of the time.

I remember those times all too well. In fact, there are a couple of sites that I used to check on my Linux box that I can't on my Lombard, because it can only take Flash version 7 instead of 8... Of course, the whole bloat mess has really irritated me to no end, especially when I ran dialup. (26K dialup until I switched to a 3MB/s cable connection through Charter)
