Heh, well... too late :-P

Yeah, I just couldn't wait. My finger was sitting on that purchase button
and I couldn't resist. That's ok, though. I'm only out $19. I bought the
generic stuff. And the way I see it, $19 for 128MB is still a steal
considering how much that stuff used to cost!

Any idea why it doesn't work? The website I'm buying from has this to say
about the RAM I bought:
>>(32Bit DRAM - High Density - Will Not Work In Systems That Can Not Accept
>>1.5GB or More Maximum Total System Memory)<<

For the low density stuff it says:
>>(16Bit DRAM - Low Density - For System That Max Out At 512MB, 768MB, or
>>1024MB)<<

Now, I knew Apple only rated the beige G3s to 768MB, but I figured that was
because big DIMMS didn't exist at production time (in fact, mine was only
rated to 384! Apple later changed that after testing 256MB DIMMS - or so I
heard. AppleSpec still says 384MB max). Also, 16Bit RAM?! What the heck?
I guess I'm confused... I thought the RAM controller has a pipe 64bits wide
(hence the install in pairs for NuBus macs and interleaving in PCI macs...)
So that's why I figured 32Bits would be ok. Plus, I know some older Macs
can go up to 1.5GB of RAM, so I figured the G3 could too, as long as you can
find sticks big enough...

Can someone help me out? There must be a RAM guru out there somewhere...

Peace,
Drew

Hi Drew,

No, it won't. The G3 Blue and White won't even take it.

Guess how I know that???

I just installed some high density memory yesterday; the computer
recognizes it as 128 MB RAM instead of the 256 MB that it really is. DMS is
shipping the replacement memory out today. (I'd not ordered high-density
nor specified any particular kind of density; I'd just told them what kind
of computer I had. I suppose the original saleman hadn't paid enough
attention or didn't know what the G4 B&W takes.) Anyway, the tech guy said
that none of the G3's will take the high density stuff.
