I would buy another LinkSys because it has one feature I consider
absolutely *essential* (at least for my brain-damaged cable company):
It lets you enter any MAC address to be used for the WAN port.

Adelphia locks their service to the MAC address of the system it was
first connected to and it can't be used on any other system. I did
call them and have them re-provision my line when I first bought the
LinkSys, but they weren't able to do it (even though they *claimed*
they did). The only way I was finally able to use it was when LinkSys
added the clone MAC address feature in a firmware upgrade.

Although other routers have that feature, as far as I know, LinkSys
is the only one that does it the way I want (which I consider the
"right" way). With the others, you need to select a machine that's
connected to it and tell it to use that MAC address. With the
LinkSys, you enter any arbitrary MAC address and it doesn't have to
be an existing machine on the network.

I had my cable modem originally connected to my B&W G3. Suppose I
replace that machine (and I intend to do so, probably by the end of
the year, depending on what new systems Apple releases)... if the
router required the MAC address to be an existing machine, I'd be out
of luck when I'm no longer using my B&W.
