Yes, it's safe to switch them. There are no software/hardware dependencies
on this card - as long as you have one or the other, it doesn't matter. I
recently had mine AV card get destroyed by a power spike in a cable TV line
(ugh) and swapped it for an AV card from an AIO - they are similar cards but
the AIO one seems to be a newer revision. Anyway, yes, it's completely
safe.
If your friend expects to do much video capture with the card, you might
warn him that it's a pretty weak card for that. It will do video from an
external source and display it on the monitory pretty well though ;-) I use
mine for TV viewing...

have a g3 300mhz minitower 384Mb)
If your frend has a free slot just plug that baby right in. The 266 and the
300 g3's are allmost the same machine. See:

in fact the only difference between 266 mhz/mt and 300 mhz/mt is the cpu and
