Can anybody tell me what's going on here? On three different websites where
items are for sale, I go through the standard routine of "adding things to
my cart" and viewing them, but then when I'm ready to pay and I hit "check
out" or "buy items," I get an error message that says "The specified server
cannot be found." Apparently I have a problem getting onto a secure page.
Anybody got any idea why that might be?

BYW My Mac is a G4 733 running OS 9.1 and Internet Explorer 5.

Not long ago I screwed up IE 5 by trying to run a proxy program called
WebWasher, which made the browser unable to load a website at all until I
turned off "Use Proxy Servers" in the Preferences. After that everything
seemed to return to normal, but maybe there is still some damage I don't
know how to fix. Because I used to be able to buy stuff on the Web with no
problem before that.

Any advice most appreciated.

TIA,

Tom
