I've read a little of it once in awhile and the amount of time involvement
with help in writing scripts is sometimes quite impressive.
In spite of the name of the group, it's not just for AppleScript; the
person who wrote the charter favors Perl, so he wrote it stipulating Perl
too. The majority of the posts relate to AppleScripting, of course. Anyway,
if you state upfront that you'd also be willing to put Perl onto your
machine and could go with either kind of script that anyone might know of,
someone might come up with an existing Perl script that would work, or
would even write one for you, you never know. Some of those people really
love scripting and enjoy helping others. (At least that used to be the
case; I haven't visited in awhile. As usual on Usenet, some trolls live
there too.)
