Well, actually, I do that already.  You are right, it is a whoooole lot 
easier ;-)  But I'm thinking about moving up to DVD for movies anyway (I 
don't have a TV or stereo system so the G3 doubles as an entertainment 
system - talk about Digital Hub ;-)  And if I moved to DVD-ROM I could ditch 
the VCR altogether and save even more desk space....  I'm sure you follow me 
now.

Plus, it's just too cool controlling your Mac's volume, video player, and cd 
player with a remote control.  Heck, you can even start up and shut down the 
mac with the remote on the performa line!

I love tinkering, but why don't you just hook up a VCR to your AV inputs and
watch TV, and videos, through that using the Apple Video Player Application?
Seems like it would be easier even if it isn't quite as fun as a hardware
hack ;^)
