For one thing, after a system crash it takes a *lot* less time for Disk First
Aid to run through a partition set up only for system files (of perhaps a 2
gb size). No need to examine every file on every partition. Other
advantages of creating partitions: you can drag in clean system folders
(either from external sources or other partitions) when something goes
wrong), indexing volumes takes a lot less time in a partition set up for
Documents (rather than scanning system files plus documents or any other
files [like image files] you know are not affected by the crash.) But these
are time savers, not critical to partitioning...
