Kathi,
imho you should upgrade to 9.1. I have a beige G3 DT humming along
rather nicely on 9.1, but it was an absolute dog on 9.0.4. I held
off on 9.1 a long time after the negative experience I had going from
8.6 to 9.0.4, it took awhile, but once I upgraded to 9.1, I was happy.
Only recommendation with upgrade is to make sure you have at least
128Mb of RAM.

I totally agree with Kyle, 9.1 is the most stable OS across the
board. I suppose this follows on for 9.2 as well, but this was
really a bug fix update more for the newer Macs.
