does any one know where i could get a copy of "mac test pro" that will work on a graphite/Digital audio/Gigabit ethernet 733 mhz g4? i'm sure the drive is failing, and as soon as i get the one i just bought i'd like to exercise the old one till it's more dead, lest it decide to act normal for apple. also, does anyone know if i could just bring this into a repair center (preferably just the drive) and exchange it? i know i'd have to bring all the info, already had to replace the power supply (loud whining, from the ps, not me, well, not until i found out i'd have to go back down to get it, the tech was off). the reason i ask is the closest apple repair center is 5 hours away (down in colorado), there aren't any in wyoming. i do ocassionally visit people in colorado and would like to exchange the silly drive next time i do. of course i'd call the repair center to make sure they had one on hand, otherwise i'd have to have them ship it. i think we have some apple techs on this list, if you can help with either problem i'd really apreciate it, and i'd really appreciate it if someone with mac test pro could contact me off list. the hardware diagnostic disk isn't that thorough, and you can't set it to loop. of course if any one knows of another good program to exercise the drive i'd consider that to, though i think whatever i use i'll applescript so the machine reboots periodically, since i think the drive info is probably only read at startup/restart. the hard drive appears mechanically sound, but the rom/eprom/eeprom on it or it's controller is failing. mandatory disclaimer: nothing in this post should be construed as incentive to violate copyright or other rights..... thanks again. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
