I have a BWG3 400 rev 2, OS 904, 768mb RAM [2 x 256mb, 2 x 128mb]. This
machine has a system bus speed 100MHz.
1. Does the requirement to have the RAM DIMM specification "PC 100" have any
relation to the system bus speed of 100 MHz or is it coincidence that the
two numbers are the same?
Now I have questions about two of my 128mb DIMMs. I have checked both DIMMs
indidually with TechTool Pro Standard RAM test and they both check out OK. I
have also checked them all with Gauge Pro for performance speed and with
DIMM First Aid 1.1. It is the last two tests which produce differing
results.

2. The first 128mb DIMM has results:
from DIMM First Aid: PC100-133. _Has minor problems in that "SPD data
revision is old or incorrect"_. Timing is shown as 7.5ns [which accords with
the markings on the DIMM].
The Gauge Pro performance speed is shown as 94.7 MB/sec.
I understand the DIMM speed rating of 2-2-2,3-3-3, etc but have never
before seen 1-3-3. Any ideas what this means? If this is meant to show that
the DIMM is faster then why is the Gauge Pro speed lower than the second 128
DIMM?

3.The second 128mb DIMM has results:
from DIMM First Aid: PC66 - 222 [altho there are two little white stickers
on the DIMM both claimimg PC100 and one of them has a Motorola logo]. Timing
is shown as 10.5ns. [No timing marking on the DIMM.]
The Gauge Pro performance speed is shown as 101.5 MB/sec
I know that my machine will happily use PC100 and PC133 RAM but what about
PC66? Why does the timimg speed show 10.5ns? If this a result of the DIMM
speed being PC66 then that would suggest that the DIMM is incorrectly
labelled as PC100? The DIMM was purchased from a reputable dealer from whom
I have previously bought RAM.

Why is the Gauge Pro performance speed result different for both DIMMs?

All four DIMMs are working fine - memory check on startup is OK, TechTool
Pro RAM tests are OK. The computer operates OK. I accept that the human eye
[mine anyway] can not distinguish between 7.5 and 10.5 nanoseconds or
between 94.7 and 101.5 MB/sec transfer speeds, but I would like to resolve
this discrepancy.

Any advice here appreciated. I am beginning to think that maybe DIMM refers
to me and not the computer!
