you might also try acrobat 3.0, some files work better with the old
version.  if not, you don't need to res-edit it, but you may need to
edit the file itself in hexedit or something similar, i honestly don't
know but that might help. you might also have to unlock the copy in the
finder so it can be edited.  if it is a copyright thing it's really
obnoxious, i've been able to print a number of copyrighted manuals
without problem, and with some this was necessary to fully try demo
software.  certainly you should be able to print a single copy, that
should fall well under "fair use".  then again, adobe has decided to be
nazis since someone cracked their terribly weak encryption, as if
showing a product defect were a crime as opposed to selling a defective product.
