This is an interesting one.  The 'kosher' Mac 'Powerdomain' model has 
a larger firmware EEPROM than the stock Winders version... or does 
it?  Apparently some of the latter are configured the same as the 
former... flash it with NOT THE LATEST firmware and see.  I hit 
lucky, cadging a free 2940UW from out of a Pentium II and putting it 
in a beige G3.  If not lucky then you need to be very handy at 
soldering IC components...
