I recently bought an older 667 mhg G4, which was better then the recent "grayish" G4s, since mine has a faster drive (7200rpm I believe).
I recently upgraded it with 3 500M memory sticks. I want to use it for future video, Photoshop work, so the need for G4 compute power (I also have an 8500/120 upgraded to a G4/400). Any other tips on tweaking my machine, for optimal performance. I recently got a ATI Radeon DDR/PCI (for Mac), which will probably go in my 8500/120. (I'm still using the stock video card, so I would definitely get a boost in video performance). Would that be a waste of performance, & it would be better suited for the G4 as a 2nd video card? I thought my G4/667 had a "wakeup from sleep freeze" problem, but it seems to have mysteriously gone away! (a tech told me of this problem with the sleep mode). Anyone replacing the stock Apple optical mouse? I saw one G4 which used some generic mouse (made in China), I thought I got the feeling they found it better than the Apple optical mouse. I have a new Logitech optical mouse, which I got for my new PC laptop (*choke*, I had to give in, since I was forced to get it for a project I'm working on). Has anyone used it for a G4 (thinking it outperformed the Apple optical mouse). I'm good with hardware, I'd like to make an external FW drive (or internal), by just using this FW-ATA bridge "thing". I understand Pyro (sp?) has such a kit. Maxtor 60G for $120: man, that's bang for your buck! I'm good with hardware, so I can do custom stuff, to save $$. (my 3 degrees are in Elec Eng). Any suggestions for a GOOD USB "node"? I'm beginning to run out of USB ports. The Iomega Zip 250 USB is sweet. (Radio shack is blowing them out for $117). I have my 8500/120 (G4/400 accelerated), G4/667, PC laptop networked on a Linksys DSL router/4-port switch. Works great.
