The best drives are currently, in order, IBM 60GXP series and Maxtor
DiamondMax Plus 60 series.

You can usually get a very good deal if you buy a Maxtor which is just
outside its 3 year warranty date.

All Maxtors are marked with their manufacturing dates. And the warranty
expiration date is the manufacturing date plus three years and three months
(the three months is to allow for distributor and dealer stock "float").

I saved perhaps $40 on a 60 GB DiamondMax Plus 60 drive by buying one which
was several weeks into the 3 year warranty period, meaning it had been out of
Maxtor's plant for at least 3 months and a few weeks.

$124 and change for a 60 GB current production, first quality drive is tough
to beat.
