Your ISP can filter based on domain, but that will catch less than
half to spam. Better than nothing, but not good enough. Use filters
for the rest.

Here are a few tips for spam filters:

Don't bother filtering the "from:" email address. This will catch
too few to be worth the trouble. Many spammers randomly generate a
bogus address for each message.

If there is a "Reply to:" address in the header, make a filter for
that. This is almost always a valid email address. Filter for that
address in the header (not just "Reply to:") and the body.

Spammers hide their email address very well. That doesn't mean
that you can't identify them with something in the email. If they
are selling something, potential suckers - I mean potential customers
- need to be able to contact them to make the purchase. There will
be something in the message that will identify the spammer. Use this
to filter the message.

If there is a "remove" email address, filter for that text in the
body of the message. This is always a valid email address because it
will normally be used to add your email address to a list of "live"
addresses so that they will know to continue [and increase] sending
you spam.

If there is a phone number in the message filter for that text in
the body of the message. Same for a U.S. mailing address that has a
9 digital "zip" code (12345-6789) for a PO Box. Because it is a PO
Box and a nine digit zip code, that zip code belongs to that box
only. For example, if address a letter to "30814-1298", it will get
to me. 30814 is the city I live in and 1298 is my box number. That
is MY zip code. No one else has it.

Many spammers will hide there links in HTML code. It will be a
"click this" Hyper Text. In Eudora, click the "blah blah blah"
button to show everything. This will also show the HTTP.etc....
addresses. Make a filter for the "Spam.com" text in the body.

A not filter tip: Set your email to NOT display images in HTML.
Spammers can use CGI to validate your email address without you ever
replying.

Keeping your email address from spammers: Don't use a real address
when posting to newsgroups. Newsgroups are fertile grown for address
farming. Don't join mailing list (like this one). Don't put your
email address on your homepage.
