I had a similar problem. The "serial port is busy" error usually means that you have AppleTalk on. Simply turning it off doesn't always help. The solution is to create a new AppleTalk configuration. In that configuration, turn AppleTalk off, then save the configuration. If this problem occurs again, simply make this configuration active.
